Master of Nursing Science (Nursing Administration)

INTRODUCTION

The Faculty of Nursing, Chiang Mai University has offered the Master of Nursing Science Program in Nursing Administration Plan A Type A2 since 1990. With a very high demand for the nurse administrators with master's degree in nursing administration, the Faculty of Nursing adjusted the program and offered the Plan B program in 1997. The latter is now an out­reach program with the cooperation of Pichit Hospital. Chiang Rai, Prachanukraw and Uttaradit and offers classes during the weekends. By the academic year 2004, 135 nurses earned Master's degrees from the Plan A Type A2 program and 105 nurses graduated from the Plan B program.

To fullfil the vision of Faculty of Nursing being an internationally-recognized academic leader in nursing. as well as to respond to the needs of the nurses from neighboring countries in Asia and all over the world, the Master of Nursing Science Program in Nursing Administration wishes to produce nurse administrators who are knowledgeable and capable of nursing administration. They are also expected to be able to conduct research and for apply research findings for the improvement of nursing management and services pertaining to society and country at large.

 

              

 

OBJECTIVES

Graduates of Master of Nursing Science in Nursing Administration program will be able to

- Analyze the issues and concepts related to nursing administration.

- Apply knowledge of nursing administration, social sciences, and other related fields of study to manage problems as well as to improve quality of nursing care.

- Conduct research and/or utilize research results in nursing administration.

- Develop leadership in both health care organizations and the nursing profession.

 

ATTENDANCE

A full time student should be able to finish the program within 2 academic years and the period of study shall not exceed 5 academic years.

 

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

There are different curriculum structures for two plans of study:

 

Plan A Type A2 (Normal)

Total Degree Reguirements: a minimum of 39 credits

Course work: a minimum of 27 credits Thesis: 12 credits

 

Plan B

Total Degree Requirements: a minimum of 39 credits

Course work: a minimum of 33 credits Independent study: 6 credits

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicant Qualifications:

To be in accordance with the Chiang Mai University Announcement on Admission in each academic year,

The applicant must have completed a Bachelor's degree in nursing science or its equivalent with the grade point average of 2.5 at least or be approved by the program's administrative committee.

The applicant who wishes to enroll in the Plan A Type A2 program must have at least 5 years' experiences in nursing or be approved by the program's administrative committee.

The applicant who wishes to enroll the Plan B program must have at least 10 years experience in nursing and hold at least a first-line manage­ment position or be approved by the program's administrative committee.

 

 

English Requirements

For those whose first language is not English: TOEFL with the minimum score of soo or IELTS overall bands of 5.5 .

 

ADMISSION PROCESS

The process is made through a review and/or written admission examination result and/or interview.
