Master of Science (Health Sciences)

INTRODUCTION


The Master of Science Program in Health Sciences is a multidisciplinary international graduate program leading to a research degree. The program will be carried out in conjunction with the Graduate School, Research Institute for Health Sciences (RIHES) and the six health science faculties at Chiang Mai University, namely; Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy. Nursing, Associated Medical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.

 

               

 

OBJECTIVES


The program is intended to develop qualified researchers in the health sciences. The goal will be to develop student's knowledge and experience by carrying out a specific research project and by learning how to develop new skills in solving a relevant health science problem.
Students undertaking the M.S. (Health\Sciences) will:
- Study in depth one aspect of public health relevant to their own area of expertise and complete a thesis.
- Acquire basic skills, knowledge and training in research methodology.
- Learn new management and leadership skills and the ability to do effective research.

 

CURRICULUM STRUCTURE


This international graduate program is classified as Plan A Type A(1). There is no coursework. A thesis is required for 36 credits. Students must perform the following academic activities: /
- A student must organize, conduct and present a seminar on a topic related to his/her thesis at least once every semester throughout his/her study period;
- A student must present a progress report on his/her thesis once every semester ;
- A student must present at least one scientific or technical paper related to his/her thesis at a scientific meetirtig, or publish it in a relevant accredited journal accepted by the health sciences academic community.

 

THE RESEARCH PROJECT


Students are expected to demonstrate general competence in various skills in their projects. Candidates may bring with them a suitable topic for research or they may develop a topic based on their current activities, or they may select from a range of topics being offered. Each student has an advisory committee to guide him/her in conducting his/her thesis.

 

QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANTS

- Hold a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in health sciences or other basic science from an accredited college or university;
- Have received a first or second class honors degree from an approved university or have experience in working in health science research for at least 2 years and have sufficient ability and willingness to do his/her thesis:
- Have acquired a TOEFL score (or equivalent standard English test) with minimum score of 500. valid during the period of application.
NB: Candidates who have not fulfilled the above criteria for acceptance in the M.S. program may nevertheless apply. but admission to the program will be subject to the conditions set forth by the Graduate Program Administrative Committee for the Health Sciences.
