The Faculty of Science, is one of the three original faculties established when the University was first founded in 1964. During the first decade, the Faculty of Science offered Bachelor’s degree course in mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, and geology. In 1974 and 1989, Master’s and Doctoral degree programs were launched respectively.
The Faculty of Science, Chiang Mai University (CMU), is one of the three original faculties established when the University was first founded in 1964. The University campus issituated at the foot of Doi Suthep, the sacred mountain which overlooks Chiang Mai City and which is revered for its temple containing relics of the Lord Buddha. The campus is located on Huay Kaew Road, 8 kilometers from the city centre.
At present, the Faculty of Science comprises its Administrative Offices and the 8 Departments of Biology , Chemistry , Computer Science , Geological Sciences , Mathematics , Physics , Statistics and Industrial Chemistry .
The Faculty is administered by the Dean and his 5 Associate Deans and 3 Assistant Deans. However, the actual academic and administrative policies for developing the Faculty are carried out under the advice of the Faculty Board. This Board consists of the Dean and his Associates, the 8 Heads of Department, and representatives of the academic staff of each Department.
