ABSTRACT
A study of the behavior of 5 captive Nicobar Pigeons (Caloenas nicobarica) was carried out at Chiang Mai Zoo from June 1997 to May 1998. Patterns of general behaviour and social behavior were observed and recorded. The general behavior of captive Nicobar Pigeons was based on comfort, locomotion, awarenes behaviour, feeding and excretion. The feeding pattern was foraging on the ground. Paddy rice and pellet feeds are more preferal than vegetables and fruits. Social and sexual behavior, aggression and parental care were also recorded. Nicobar Pigeons are gregarious birds. The breeding season was in December to May, with double brooding. One white egg was laid per clutch. Both parents incubated the egg. Juvenile had no hackles. They had green- glossy tails and no white tail and under tail coverts.
